To be honest I did not enjoy the editing process, it’s really hard and actually took me a really long time to edit. The software I have used is Adobe Premiere for editing.

I watched some tutorial videos in Chinese about how to use premiere and this improved my skills. But I found it not that useful because even it is in Chinese, sometimes it is still hard to understand what is each button means. My editing style basically followed my storyboard, but some of my friend’s part which his lip-sync was too fast or too slow, then I would use some videos that I prepared instead. I did not add much special effects during the editing. One of the reason would be I really didn’t know how to do it properly, the other reason which I think was important was that my MV was kind of emo and more about memories, youth so I don’t think it’s possible to add any special effects in. I did use colour grading at the opening part, I had to make my parts darker for showing that it is memory (Kong in the past).

I would say my editing fitted the music type, I did not add more change on special effects, but on arranging the clips together to produce a long music video. I had filmed lots of short clips which bring me lots of trouble for memorizing which one match with which bit, which clips would be putting in verse 1, and the rest in verse2 etc. I had cut all the background noise so all the sounds in the music video is the song. I used lots of fade in and out for transitions. I had also add subtitle of the lyrics of the songs.

Overall I would not call the editing a success because I really didn’t have much expereince at editing before studying media studies, which means I had to put lots of efforts into learning the basic of editing, That’s really the biggest challenge that I faced. For the refilming work, because I totally changed my ideas and wrote up a much logical storyboard, hopefully this time the editing will improve and I can think about adding more special effects into the MV.
